FinTelegram reports start to go viral. Thanks to our many supporters and whistleblowers, FinTelegram has been able to establish a case around Gery Shalon and his father, the Georgian politician Shota Shalelashvili. According to information available to FinTelegram, the family of Shalelashvili is involved in money laundering. The Georgian TV station Rustavi2 confronted Shota Shalelashvili with the allegations and he obviously was not amused.
See the interview here on the Rustavi Facebook page. At around min 4.44 of the footage, Shota Shalelashvili is confronted with the FinTelegram article on Gery Shalon and his family.
The interview was conducted by a reporter of OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project). Consequently, FinTelegram received more intel from OCCRP and Georgian whistleblowers. OCCRP is a leading platform for investigative journalism with 45 non-profit investigative centers in 34 countries.
It was OCCRP which exposed the Russian Laundromat, the largest Russian money laundering scheme ever. Purportedly, up to USD 22 billion have been laundered via European banks from Russia. The OCCRP investigation resulted in a huge German enforcement action. Hence, we are proud to be recognized by the OCCRP guys.
