The notorious Deutsche Handelsbank has been in the FinTelegram focus as a scam facilitator over the last four years. In July 2021, the German bank announced that it would terminate its payment services business. The bank’s CEO Frank Schlaberg (LinkedIn) left the bank in August 2022 to become co-CEO of Bankhaus von der Heydt. According to insiders, German prosecutors are still investigating Deutsche Handelsbank and its business activities based on many complaints.
In April 2021, the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office searched Deutsche Handelsbank in connection with the money laundering investigation conducted against it. The European Fund Recovery Initiative (EFRI) 2020 has filed a money laundering complaint against Deutsche Handelsbank. We do not know whether this was the cause of the house search that took place.
In July 2021, the Bank announced that it would no longer offer payment transaction services in the future. All employees in this area have been terminated at the end of the year.
According to a report in the German newspaper Handelsblatt in December 2021, Deutsche Handelsbank, currently owned by the billionaire Reimann family, planned to split up and partially sell the Munich-based institution after the restructuring was completed.
