A 5 April 2022, we reported about the broker scam CryptBull. The Spanish regulator CNMV had issued a warning against the fraud. In our review at that time, we discovered that CryptBull offered NeoBanq, SecurePaymentGateway, and Gateway a/k/a Gateway Services as facilitating payment processors. Upon the publishing of our review, Gateway disappeared as a payment option. We published a request for information regarding the high-risk payment processor Gateway and received a (confirming) complaint from their lawyer. Here is another update on the high-risk payment processor.

Updated Narrative
The fact is that during our review on April 5, 2022, we found Gateway as a payment processor on CryptBull’s payment page. We took screenshots (see left) and simulated a payment transaction. Thus, our review is strictly fact-based. It is also a fact that shortly after our initial CryptBull review, Gateway was removed as a payment option. We have reported about this correctly as well.
Gateway Statement: “There is no connection between Gateway and CryptBull. The correct statement is that in fact, CryptBull was never authorised by and has never had the ability to make a transaction through Gateway and/or Gateway Services as processors. Any reference to our client on CryptBull’s site has been unauthorised and as you point out Gateway no longer appear on their site, as upon discovering the unauthorised use, appropriate steps were taken.”

Cyprus is indicated as the competent jurisdiction in the Terms of Use of Gateway Services. However, the phone number listed on the website is connected to the Russian company DCC Agency LLC, located in Moscow, which operates the website DCC Agency (https://dcc-agency.com). This Russian agency offers coupons and gift cards for shops in Cyprus. We have not been able to check the nature of the connection between Gateway and DCC Agency.
Gateway Statement: “With respect to references to DCC Agency LLC, whilst the telephone number for DCC Agency LLC does appear on Gateway’s website, there is no connection between the two entities. We are instructed that the reason for the telephone number appearing on the website is because the number was simply one for a service office, with the same failing to denote any legitimate association between the parties.“
Preliminary Conclusion
The UK Lawyer complaint calls the two reports about CryptBull and Gateway a/k/a Gateway Services false and defamatory. However, the fact is that both articles are true to the letter. Gateway was listed as a payment option by Cryptbull. Whether this was authorized or unauthorized, we cannot know and have not explained. The phone number of the Russian DCC Agency is still on the website. So this is also a fact.
Gateway states Cyprus as the relevant jurisdiction in its Terms & Conditions. However, on the website as well as in the complaint of the lawyer, the registered office in London is stated. In fact, nothing is known about the beneficial owners and responsible managers. Strange for a payment processor, we think.
