Breaking News: Austrian prosecutors appeal against the acquittal of Marina Barak!

Spread financial intelligence

Israeli Gal Barak was sentenced as head of the Bulgarian cybercrime organization E&G Bulgaria in September 2020 to several years in prison and more than €4 million restitution payment. His Bulgarian wife, Marina Barak, was the CFO of this cybercrime organization. The German Prosecutor’s Office names her as one of the ringleaders. Incomprehensibly, however, Marina Barak was acquitted by an Austrian judge. The prosecution has now filed a 47-page appeal, seen by FinTelegram.

The German public prosecutor’s office has already indicated in confidential talks in recent months that the acquittal by the Austrian judge is completely incomprehensible given the overwhelming evidence. Their Austrian colleagues in the public prosecutor’s office have now appealed against the first court’s verdict in detail on 47 pages. The appeal provides an extensive list of her participation in fraud activities and how she personally benefited from the victims’ losses.

The German prosecution wants to indict Gal Barak and his wife, Marina Barak. The trials only dealt with the Austrian victims in Austria, only a tiny fraction of the total fraud volume. Worldwide, according to information from a former partner of the Barak’s, more than 50,000 victims are said to have been defrauded of more than €200 million.

We will soon bring a detailed analysis of the appeal and the current status of this international cybercrime court case. Stay tuned.
