On December 3, 2020, the sentencing of the Russian hacker Andrei Tyurin should have taken place in New York. He is said to be a key accomplice of the Israeli mastermind Gery Shalon in the largest finance hack in U.S. history with more than 80 million stolen client data. For this, he is said to have received $19 million from Shalon. Due to technical problems of the virtual court session, the sentencing session had to be stopped and has now been rescheduled for January 7, 2021.

According to UrduPoint, Judge Laura Taylor Swain has decided to continue the sentencing proceeding via videoconference on the morning of January 7, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. The U.S. sentencing guidelines call for Tyurin to spend from 15 years and eight months to 19 years and seven months in prison. The sentence should reflect the “enormous destructive impact” of his hacking, the prosecutors argue.
