FinTelegram has had the crypto payment processor controlled and funded by Russian entrepreneurs and investors on its radar for two years now. We uncovered on it that Mercuryo acted as a facilitator of scams and was active in Russia even after the Western sanctions. Mercuryo and its Austrian law firm defamed FinTelegram in a SLAPP action and lost a respective preliminary injunction against the European Fund Recovery Initiative (EFRI).
Mercuryo wanted to prevent FinTelegram from further reporting and wanted to have the already published articles deleted. The Russian-controlled crypto payment processor and its Austrian law firm Binder Groesswang (website) decided to SLAPP-attack on EFRI and FinTelegram. In a preliminary injunction against EFRI, it was claimed that the people of EFRI had control over FinTelegram and therefore also over its reporting. Sound complicated? It is. And it is defamation!
On Friday afternoon, the Court dismissed the motion for a preliminary injunction, making findings that essentially confirm FinTelegram’s reporting.
We have asked EFRI to send us the ruling. We will analyze it and publish a detailed report shortly. Stay tuned!
